In the second part of our collaboration with Venus Fest, join System Failure for an intimate discussion with two of Canada’s boundary-pushing sound system culture forces: bass producer/DJ and sound system builder Honeydrip (Tiana McLaughlin) and artist-scholar, curator and documentarian PYNE (Alanna Stuart). Rooted in a shared passion for heavy dub, dancehall, electronic production, and their Caribbean-Canadian sonic roots, this conversation explores the influences, experiences, communities and places that shaped Honeydrip and PYNE’s artistic practices, their friendship, collaborations and creative visions in their multiple dimensions and forms. From PYNE’s ‘Femmehall’ praxis—a feminine approach to dancehall reggae music production, to Honeydrip’s experimentations with embodiment, bass and the building of sound systems.
