SERIOUSLY THO w/ Alex Sourbis, Céline Gillain & Noé Béal
For this episode, we’re joined by Brussels-based documentary maker Noé Béal to discuss his article for the latest issue of the French magazine Audimat. Titled ‘Fête, Travail, Vertu’, the article explores the particular form electronic music festivals have taken in Belgium and the political ambiguities that run through them. Positioned between private sponsorship and public space, festivals can create forms of community while also capitalising on publicly subsidised space, leading to an important question: who benefits from the use of public resources? We’ll discuss the festivalisation of public space in cities, the financialisation of electronic music, as well as the volunteer labour and precarious working conditions on which these festivals depend. The discussion will be held in Frenglish.
