This SWANA MIX brings together both established and marginal voices from South West Asia & North Africa, including artists rooted in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Libya and their diasporas. Moving beyond national borders, the selection traces cultural exchanges and journeys between past and present, and between cities such as Cairo, Damascus, Gaza and Algiers.
Blending Arabic with French, English, Darija and more, the mix captures shifting musical languages and contemporary transformations. Harsh beats and melancholic moods reflect how traditional forms are reworked into new sonic horizons.
The SWANA MIX was assembled by Morad Montazami, founder of Zamân Books & Curating, a platform dedicated to Arab, African and Asian arts and archives.
