When I had an ear infection, I was listening to J Dilla to ease the pain. Repetitive patterns and feely drums make my mind at ease. This comfyness is an enduring legacy of Instrumental Hip-Hop, now even embedded by corporate and self-help culture; lo-fi beats to put yourself to work. But with this mix, I would like to highlight its other legacy, namely the stubborn relation between drummer and drumcomputer. DJ'ing is rooted in a similar confrontation between human and machine. Hopefully these wonky beats can scratch an itch and disorient you from your work, reprogramming your ear drum sans quantization.
