Continuing our exploration of sound walking, this episode takes us to Istanbul through the work of architect and sound researcher Sena Karahan, whose project Everyday Acoustic Palimpsest explores urban life via soundwalks and collective mapping.
In the Galata area—historically shaped by trade and industry yet now pressured by gentrification—Sena uses walking and listening as feminist, situated practices to question how we experience public space. Her method layers multiple recordings of the same route, creating a sonic archive of overlapping experiences. Developed with women and queer participants, the project blends fieldwork, workshops, and collective sound collages. The episode also features Sena’s recordings from Istanbul’s Bosphorus ferries connecting Europe and Asia.
