Awa is a Māori DJ, broadcaster and graphic designer from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa (Wellington, New Zealand). At home, he hosts the fortnightly Uranga show—showcasing music of harmony and rhythm from jazz to dub, club and anything in-between while drawing on his whakapakeke Māori (Indigenous upbringing)—on the community internet radio station, Mouthfull Radio. Over the last four years, he has brought waiata (music) to dancefloors and spaces across Aotearoa, including Friendly Potential’s Beacon Festival and Eyegums’ Welcome to Nowhere. He has also shared a showbill with Mara TK, one of Aotearoa’s most cherished Māori artists.
