You meet a lot of interesting people at the rave. Not a few, it turns out, are writers.
In 2022, Zoë Beery and Geoffrey Mak started a reading series called Writing on Raving as a space for ravers to share the brilliant thoughts that often emerge on the dancefloor.
McKenzie Wark joined as a co-curator shortly after. We wanted to bring writing closer to the party. We wanted readings with good lighting, a real sound system, a fog machine, even. This month, O/R Books publishes the Writing on Raving anthology, a collection of literary pieces from the first three years of the series.
This mix is inspired by the book: some selections are mentioned in its pages, others are produced by contributors, and the rest are from our personal raving histories — tracks along the journey that led us to each other as dancers and collaborators.
