POPULOUS, aka Andrea Mangia, is a DJ and producer from Lecce, Southern Italy, blending global sounds with a focus on Latin American influences seen through a European lens. Since his debut album Quipo (2003), he has evolved through releases like Night Safari and Azulejos, earning acclaim for his vibrant mix of reggae, hip-hop, and electronic music. As a sound designer, he’s collaborated with fashion houses like Gucci and Vivienne Westwood, and his 2020 album W celebrated femininity and diversity, reinforcing his role as an LGBTQ+ advocate. His latest album, Stasi (2021), draws inspiration from the Mediterranean, showcasing his ambient and electronic mastery.
