In System Failure’s first part of exploring the works of women in Brazilian electronic and experimental music, we have collected two hours of post-punk, improvisation, lo-fi, sound art and field recordings, from the 1970s to the present.
While Brazil is often discussed within music histories through the emergence of concrete music, with Música Nova in the 1950s and then with Tropicalismo in the 1960s, it has a rich history of experimentations with sound electronics, both through academic and DIY paths, followed by artists across the lines of gender, race, class etc.
This episode collects a variety of works, from known artists to more obscured and recent contributions, from DIY compilations and Brazilian labels such as Berro, seminal records, Musica Insolita, Nada Nada Discos, Brava.
