As a pioneer of sound art, Christina Kubisch found herself in the early 70s Milan, looking for a new way and practices to produce sounds and create installations. Using a telephone amplifier, she discovered “strange sounds” that she hadn’t produced, something that turned into a key moment in her work. Electromagnetic induction between devices was the source. Developing her own set of headphones in order to pick up these frequencies, Kubisch turned the process into her famous electrical walks, where participants, following her maps, finding key spots, are able to explore the hidden sounds of cities around the world and create their own compositions using their body.
This tribute includes works from the albums On Air (Six Themes On Open Space), Night Flights, Five Electrical Walks and The Secret Life of the Inaudible as well as excerpts from the video shorts ‘Christina Kubisch: Discovering new sounds’ by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts and “Electrical Walks “ by Christina Kubicsh.
