Outsiders: La Monnaie
In October, La Monnaie introduces a new production of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, an epic tetralogy inspired by early Norse and German heroic poetry.
This playlist takes you on a (valkyrie) ride through northern mythology, halting at a historically inspired performance of the Edda, Henry Purcell's rendition of the King Arthur myth and Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt, only to end where it once all began: at the bottom of the Rhine, where precious gold engendered a four part epic music drama.
