ben kaya is an american, brussels based composer, producer and performer. his work primarily is concerned with simplicity, limitation and repetition, using long durations, repetitive motifs and a focus on textural sound and visuals to break a natural and perceived order and highlight specific social phenomenon. his compositions often include the use of microtonality, electronics in combination with acoustic instrumentation, programming and acoustic phenomenon. using shapes and free flowing form as a compositional tool for the structure of harmonic relationships in space. among sound he also works with light, projection and physical materials in installation, collaborative performance and dance works that carry a similar ethos to his sound practice.
